That was a high quality performance by Anthony Taylor, his contribution to a cracking game of football was noteworthy. The key plus points being:

  • Pre-match I referenced Anthony’s commendable positioning and fitness levels, this was faultless throughout and a perfect example for up and coming referees.
  • On paper, 6 cautions for the Home Team looks as through the referee has lost control, quite the opposite as West Ham chose to offend and take the cautions. They will pay a financial price for their misdemeanours, but it’s a small price to pay for an invaluable 3 points.
  • An honourable mention is due to the Assistant Referees who backed-up Anthony Taylor’s refereeing style with solid displays.

#WHUCHE  5 added minutes, the Home Team paying the price for persistent time-wasting…….

AH at 2017-12-09 15:16:54

Yellow CardMore intentional actions to delay the restart, this time Masuaka is the guilty party

83

AH at 2017-12-09 15:14:56

Once again, good quality decision making, this time by Peter Kirkup as Morata was not offside in the build-up to that attack.

#WHUCHE We have a bumper weekend of RefCam games – with the Merseyside and Manchester derbies sure to be ‘interesting’ affairs – why not join us for both games, with expert comments from former Premier League officials Ron Harris and Guy Beale.

15 minutes to go and all 3 results are still possible … this has been great entertainment so far ….

69

AH at 2017-12-09 15:02:45

Yellow CardThe Home Team’s card count continues to rise as Obiang, on this occasion, commits a cynical offence and receives his due punishment.  Anthony Taylor has had no choice with all the cautions and has been nothing but consistent with his reading of the incidents

67

AH at 2017-12-09 14:59:17

Yellow CardYellow CardReid and Cresswell both, correctly, receive cautions – with both players expecting the card was coming. Great awareness once again from Anthony Taylor, especially when Reid offended as he ran towards the incident to prevent any possible retaliation from Morata.

Yellow CardOnce again, Anthony Taylor combines his quality decision making with good technical refereeing and game awareness, this time Adrian is cautioned for delaying the restart of play.

58

AH at 2017-12-09 14:49:47

#WHUCHE  The referee has been asked to make 3 key ‘penal offence’ decisions in the last 5 minutes, all of which were correct, and on each occasion he was ideally placed,  I cannot stress enough the importance of fitness, positioning and movement at all levels of our game.

52

AH at 2017-12-09 14:46:25

#WHUCHE.  In my opinion, commendable refereeing by Anthony Taylor as the ball strikes the hand of the Chelsea defender in the penalty area.  His arms were in a natural position and there was no intent, play on was the correct decision. Please also notice the referees commendable position to judge the incident, as we referenced pre-match, he could not have been better placed.

50

AH at 2017-12-09 14:40:20

#WHUCHE – more solid decision making by the match officials as Stuart Burt correctly indicates Arnautovic offside.

47

AH at 2017-12-09 14:37:36

#WHUCHE Good attention to detail early in the second half as Anthony Taylor ensures a throw-in is taken from the correct position – setting his standards early and asserting his authority in a low-key, subtle manner.

Half-Time

Half Time

We reach half-time with an unexpected scoreline here at The London Stadium, from the referee’s viewpoint, so far, so good from Anthony Taylor and his colleagues.

AH at 2017-12-09 14:15:23

2 additional minutes …..

41

AH at 2017-12-09 14:13:15

#WHUCHE Anthony Taylor’s good run of decision making continues as he allows the Home Team to develop a promising by applying the advantage clause to good effect

37

AH at 2017-12-09 14:08:37

#WHUCHE 3 offences against Antonio now as Fabregas offends, I wonder if the match referee is aware of this?

#WHUCHE That was a good offside call by Stuart Burt, Morata has strayed offside, the decision was marginal, but correct

29

AH at 2017-12-09 13:59:51

Famous last words – but I cannot see this finishing 1-0 !!

25

AH at 2017-12-09 13:55:44

#WHUCHE 25 minutes gone already, the early goal has increased the intensity of the game, so far so good for the refereeing team, they need to keep a close eye on proceedings.

18

AH at 2017-12-09 13:50:48

Yellow CardAlonso becomes the second name in the referee’s book this afternoon as he ‘leaves one’ on Adrian – once again good refereeing as their was an expectation of a caution for the Chelsea forward.

13

AH at 2017-12-09 13:46:48

#WHUCHE. Minimal contact in the penalty area as Morata goes to ground when challenged by Winston Reid. The West Ham defender is clearly furious by Morata’s actions, but Anthony Taylor calls it right in my opinion by letting play continue, no caution for simulation.

11

AH at 2017-12-09 13:43:14

Two fouls in quick succession against Michail Antonio, I wonder if Chelsea are targeting him ?

7

AH at 2017-12-09 13:40:56

Yellow CardThe goalscorer gets a yellow card for his troubles, as it’s so early on in the game, I hope he doesn’t regret his over celebration later in the game.

6

AH at 2017-12-09 13:37:50

GOAL! Fabulous (Chelsea-like) play as West Ham take the lead, Arnautovic fires home, game on !!

3

AH at 2017-12-09 13:34:36

That’s a good, solid start from Anthony Taylor as he shows confident decision making as Zappacosta offends.

2

AH at 2017-12-09 13:31:35

West Ham seem to be playing a pressing game already, one for the match officials to be aware of

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-12-09 13:29:58

WHUCHE As the game gets underway, keep an eye on Anthony’s positioning and movement, for me he is one of the best exponents and he is very rarely out of position.

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-12-09 13:26:00

#WHUCHE Anthony Taylor is the man in charge this afternoon, with Stuart Burt and Peter Kirkup assisting, Graham Scott has the 4th official duties.

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-12-09 13:19:39

Our congratulations from here at You Are The Ref to referees Craig Pawson and Michael Oliver, and their colleagues, for their International appointments this week.  Michael’s appointment is of particular interest as this was a Champions League fixture, could this be a pointer to his elevation to the UEFA Elite panel of referees later this month?
