For the second week running here on RefCam, I offer my congratulations to Anthony Taylor on a sound and solid all-round performance. His interventions were just what was needed to retain and maintain control, showing good common sense and match awareness with his decision to caution 3 players, and being accurate with his penal offence decision making.

Please stay tuned to RefCam for the 4.30pm kick-off, I will sign-off now to allow Dean Moraheb to start his commentary on this game.

Game over – summary to follow in a few moments ……

90+4

AH at 2017-12-17 17:07:31

Yellow CardRondon is petulant and suffers the same fate as Matic, justifiably so!

90+2

AH at 2017-12-17 17:06:19

Yellow CardMatic is correctly cautioned for delaying the restart, excellent game awareness with just 2 minutes remaining

87

AH at 2017-12-17 17:02:38

#WBAMUN Once again a sensible and professional intervention from Anthony Taylor as his diffuses some nonsense in the penalty area – no cards required to maintain control

84

AH at 2017-12-17 16:59:48

#WBAMUN Our second RefCam game of the day, our 4th of the weekend, sees the red half of Merseyside travel to take on Bournemouth, with expert comments from former National List Referee Dean Moraheb, KO 5.30pm UK time. Why not stay tuned here at RefCam to take in both games.

Here is where the Refereeing Team need to refocus once more for the final 10 minutes

76

AH at 2017-12-17 16:50:44

GOAL! Hello – where has that come from – ex Manchester City Gareth Barry slots home from close range for he Home Team and we have game on.

71

AH at 2017-12-17 16:48:00

#WBAMUN Once again the referee is well placed as McClean and Young collide, with a slight adjustment to his patrol path allowing the referee to view the incident clearly. Play on is the correct decision.

69

AH at 2017-12-17 16:43:56

#WBAMUN Rondon offends – look at Anthony Taylor’s positional sense as he correctly awards the free-kick to the Away Team. His decision brings a wry smile to the face of the West Brom striker which said “Can’t argue with you Ref when you are 5 metres away!”

#WBAMUN Anthony Taylor continues to impress, making sure the world and his wife were aware of Nyom’s misdemeanours by involving West Brom skipper Evans in his discussions with the right-back.

57

AH at 2017-12-17 16:29:38

#WBAMUN We speculated at half-time that the game might increase in intensity, this has certainly been the case and I would not be surprised if there are 1 or 2 more yellow cards may follow.

51

AH at 2017-12-17 16:26:40

Yellow CardThe first real test of the referee during the afternoon and he passes with flying colours!  Rashford shows petulance in an off-the-ball incident with Hegazi and is correctly cautioned.

49

AH at 2017-12-17 16:22:12

That was a good call from Harry Leanard as Lukaku strays offside

47

AH at 2017-12-17 16:20:08

#WBAMUN I am sure West Brom will be fired up for the first 10-15 minutes of this half, expect the refereeing team to have to increase their involvement as the game progresses.

46

AH at 2017-12-17 16:17:53

There is a much quoted refereeing adage about the first 45 minutes being the easier half, this is usually the case, but don’t estimate the work rate put in by Anthony Taylor in the first half, let’s hope for more of the same in the 2nd half.

Half Time

AH at 2017-12-17 16:05:15

Half Time Half time and the refereeing team will be delighted with the way that the match had gone so far.  The players has helped by remaining disciplined and they will be hoping for the same in the 2nd half

42

AH at 2017-12-17 15:59:40

McClean offends and Anthony Taylor correctly awards the free-kick – no fuss, no drama, just solid and accurate decision making.

40

AH at 2017-12-17 15:56:31

#WBAMUN 5 minutes to go to half-time for Anthony Taylor and his team to see the game safely through to half-time, It’s going very well so far for the 3rd team on the field of play.

34

AH at 2017-12-17 15:53:05

GOAL! Lingard’s somewhat fortunate deflection leaves Foster stranded and the Away Team have doubled their lead

30

AH at 2017-12-17 15:46:51

#WBAMUN Goals change game patterns, West Brom will now have to change tactics and be more aggressive – time for the refereeing team to refocus on the task in hand

27

AH at 2017-12-17 15:44:15

GOAL! A quality ball from Rashford is met by a quality header from Lukaku and the Away Team have the lead.

23

AH at 2017-12-17 15:40:24

#WBAMUN One quarter of the way through the game, and this might be tempting fate, but as the game of chess masqueradering as a game of football continues, I can’t see this ending up 5-5. #hometeamparkthebus

For those of you who have been refereeing out in the cold and wet of a typical English Sunday morning, we hope you enjoyed your game, get yourself a warm cup of something or other, sit down, relax and enjoy the game with us.

14

AH at 2017-12-17 15:31:08

Interestingly, 14 minutes passed until the first penal offence, unusual for the Premier League.  On a similar vane we have not had a shot on goal !!!

10

AH at 2017-12-17 15:27:15

#WBAMUN As referenced last weekend on RefCam, keep an eye on Anthony Taylor’s first rate positioning, fitness and movement as the game progresses, I can only define this as ‘text-book’

7

AH at 2017-12-17 15:24:01

#WBAMUN The Home Team seem quiet prepared to let Manchester United to have the ball and the territorial advantage – something the refereeing team need to be aware of.

2

AH at 2017-12-17 15:19:48

#WBAMUN Good to see Marcus Rashford staying on his feet and not trying to deceive the referee by going down in the penalty area under the slightest contact from Johnny Evans

AH at 2017-12-17 15:14:30

#WBAMUN  I had the pleasure of Assessing Anthony as on his way to reaching Premier League status on a wet and windy evening at Grimsby Town. I recall that on a bitterly cold evening, when the football was not of the highest standard, he was excellent in his command of the game, and I am delighted for him that he continues to flourish.

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-12-17 15:12:31

Those with a good memory may recall questions being asked when Anthony was appointed to a Manchester United cup-tie, with him being relatively local and following Altrincham FC, but thankfully such playground squabbling has been quashed and there is no doubting his integrity or professionalism.

Pre-Match

AH at 2017-12-17 15:11:13

Anthony Taylor takes charge this afternoon, Steve Child and Harry Lennard are his Assistants, with the inform and fit again Bobby Madley taking his second 4th official match of the weekend, not sure I understand why this is the case PGMO?

#WBAMUN Some very interesting talking points already from yesterday’s games – lots of discussions surrounding the incidents involving Ali & Kane for Tottenham and Hogg for Huddersfield.  From a personal viewpoint I thought the latter was somewhat unlucky, but what do you think?  Let us know by tweeting us here @youaretheref
